Guides

Guides for the everyday billing jobs in the dashboard: subscriptions, invoices, failed payments, tax, checkout, usage and AI billing, testing and your team.

These guides are for the person who runs the billing: a founder, a finance lead or an operations team. Each guide is one job, done in the dashboard, with no code. To build billing into your product with the API, see the developer docs. New to Two Minute Billing? Start with Getting started.

Day to day

  • Customers and subscriptions: add customers, subscribe them, change what they pay, and cancel.
  • Invoices and credit notes: read an invoice, collect or record a payment, request payment for several invoices at once, keep numbered receipts, and correct an invoice with a credit note.
  • Recover failed payments: set a retry schedule, decide what happens when it runs out, and give some customers their own dunning policy.
  • Handle disputes: see each chargeback, what happens to the invoice, and the evidence you need to respond to the bank.

Setting up

  • Connect a payment gateway: connect your own payment gateway account, so payments go to your bank at your rates.
  • Set up tax: charge tax where you are registered, inclusive or exclusive, with exemptions.
  • Hosted checkout and portal: pages with your brand where customers subscribe, pay, update their card and see their invoices.
  • Payment methods your customers can use: cards and 3D Secure, Apple Pay and Google Pay, bank debits, and the mandates and notices that go with them.
  • Emails and branding: the address your billing email comes from, which emails go out, their wording, and your brand on invoices.
  • Connect your other tools: sync HubSpot both ways, and send sales and refunds to FirstPromoter for your affiliate program.

Usage and AI billing

Running it well

  • Test with Time Travel: move the clock of a test business forward to watch renewals, trial ends and retries in seconds.
  • Read your numbers: how MRR, ARR, churn and subscriber mix are calculated, per currency and per business.
  • Your team, roles and logs: a fixed or custom role for each person, API keys with only the access they need, and a record of who changed what and when.
