# Tax

> Tax is configured per region, and a region is a country you have registered in.

Tax is configured per **region**, and a region is a country you have registered in. Within it, rates are a **component vector** rather than one number, because a single sale can attract several taxes at once that must appear separately on the invoice.

A **tax profile** applies one class of rate to one class of product, so reduced-rate and standard-rate goods can sit in the same catalogue. Where a sale is taxed depends on the place of supply — the buyer's address against the seller's registrations — so state registrations are held per region and snapshotted onto each invoice. A region can be priced tax-inclusive, in which case the tax is backed out of the price rather than added to it.
