# Payment Requests

> Ask a customer for several open invoices at once: one charge for the total, or one link they pay once.

Ask a customer for several open invoices at once: one charge for the total, or one link they pay once. Credit on file is applied first, then the money is applied to the invoices in the business's order (`billing_rules_config.payment_application.invoice_order`; default oldest due first). `origin` says who asked: `manual` (operator or API), `dunning` (the clock's combined retry) or `portal` (the customer). Each invoice gets its own payment, so refunds and credit notes work per invoice.
